Raud re-arrested over woman's fall under new warrant
He was released on Thursday morning prior to the scheduled commencement of an appeal hearing regarding his remand order at the High Court.
Raud Ahmed Zilal, who was present with Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed before she fell from the ninth floor of a building onto the roof of an adjacent warehouse, has been arrested again under a new court order issued on Thursday afternoon.
Raud was initially arrested in April in connection with the incident. He was released on Thursday morning prior to the scheduled commencement of an appeal hearing regarding his remand order at the High Court. Following his release, the High Court case was withdrawn. However, he was re-arrested later the same day.
Raud has now been remanded five times in relation to the case:
-
On 25 April, a five-day remand was granted (order later released)
-
On 30 April, he was granted 10 days in remand (order released)
-
On 10 May, a five-day remand was issued (order not made public)
-
On 16 May, a 20-day remand was granted
The most recent remand followed a new court order based on developments in the investigation. According to police, Raud was with Yumnu on the stairs of H. Fentenoy house on Burzumagu when the incident occurred. He tested positive for cannabis.
Police initially stated that Raud was the only person involved in the incident and later arrested him for failure to cooperate with the investigation.
Details included in the second arrest warrant indicate that there had been a dispute between Raud and Yumnu on the night of the incident. The warrant states that Raud informed another person about Yumnu’s fall.
Yumnu’s family held a press conference after she regained consciousness, quoting her as saying she did not fall on her own. The family claimed that individuals other than Raud were also present at the time of the incident.
However, police stated that the family has not cooperated in facilitating the collection of Yumnu’s statement. She is currently receiving medical treatment in Malaysia. Authorities said they are working with Malaysian police to obtain the statement in accordance with that country’s laws.
