Former President Mohamed Nasheed has denied claims that Chief Justice Muthasim Adnan approached him to seek acceptance of a Supreme Court decision concerning constitutional amendments related to parliamentary disqualification.

The denial was issued in response to a report published by Raajje MV under the headline “Chief Justice Muthasim’s Case Submitted to JSC.” The article alleged that a complaint had been filed with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) against both Chief Justice Muthasim and Nasheed.

According to Raajje MV, the complaint alleged that the Supreme Court Registrar had initially decided not to accept the constitutional amendment concerning the loss of parliamentary seats following party defection. The article also cited an anonymous source who claimed that Attorney General Ahmed Usham had threatened the Chief Justice.

In a statement released by his office, Nasheed dismissed all the claims in the report as false. The statement expressed support for Chief Justice Muthasim, stating that he performs his duties with integrity and that his appointment was based on these qualities.

Nasheed also called for an end to the spread of what he described as “false information.”

The Democrats, a party founded by Nasheed, had previously intervened in the constitutional amendment case but later withdrew. The case, which was being heard by a full bench of the Supreme Court, has since been suspended.

The suspension followed the Judicial Service Commission’s decision to suspend three judges of the Supreme Court. Among them, Judge Husnu Al Suood resigned, while Judges Mahaz Ali Zahir and Azmiralda Zahir were removed from their positions through parliamentary action.
