Many countries across the world have now discontinued the form as it has become a nuisance for many travellers.

Maldives Immigration said on Wednesday that it has no plans to scrap the 'Imuga' traveller health declaration form required to travel to the Maldives or travel abroad.

Introduced as a precautionary measure due to Covid-19, people are required to submit a traveller health declaration form. The form contains detailed information about the traveller and the trip.

However, many countries across the world have now discontinued the form as it has become a nuisance for many travellers.

Immigration spokesperson Miftah Mohamed told Atoll Times that there were no immediate plans to scrap the form.

According to him:

  • The form was revised in June to make it easier for applicants; now there is no need to upload a PCR test result and fill up health details

  • Submitting the declaration makes it easier for authorities to collect information as it is important to have information about travellers

  • Travellers can easily fill the form online from the official website

Almost all European countries, which introduced the declaration form as a precautionary measure against Covid-19, have scrapped the form. India, the region's most populous country, has also made scrapped the form from Tuesday.
