Police probe AI-generated betting site video using PSM branding

Maldives Police are investigating the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in a video advertisement promoting a betting site that features the logo and branding of the Public Service Media (PSM).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, police confirmed that the matter had come to their attention and that the video appeared to be generated using AI. The content is reportedly being circulated online to advertise a betting platform while impersonating an official PSM broadcast.

The video, shared on the Facebook page of a site identified as ‘Kirabet’, uses the logos of PSM and Television Maldives (TVM). The video is formatted to resemble a local news bulletin and features a digitally generated voice and video of a journalist presenting what appears to be a news segment.

In the video, AI-generated visuals and dialogue promote the betting site and make claims about prize winners, giving the impression that the content is part of an official PSM broadcast.

Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the investigation or the parties involved in creating or disseminating the video.
