Maldives, Sri Lanka reaffirm commitment to bilateral cooperation

President Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the Maldives will continue to work with Sri Lanka for the benefit of both countries and their people.
He made the remarks following official talks held on Monday during the state visit of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to the Maldives.
The discussions between the two leaders concluded with the signing of two bilateral agreements. The agreements cover cooperation in diplomatic training and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.

The meeting also addressed ways to strengthen bilateral ties and enhance cooperation on regional and international matters.
President Muizzu thanked the Sri Lankan government and people for the assistance extended to the Maldives over the years. He reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to working closely with Sri Lanka to promote the mutual interests of both nations.
Areas of cooperation discussed during the meeting included trade, defence, education, vocational training, youth and sports, environment, agriculture, and fisheries. The leaders also discussed collaboration in maritime security and climate change initiatives.
President Muizzu acknowledged President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s efforts in managing Sri Lanka’s economic recovery.
