The lagoon adjacent to the tourist market has been closed to facilitate the widening of Boduthakurufaanu Magu.
The Ministry of Construction announced on Tuesday that vessels will not be allowed to enter or leave the area and the road will not be in use during the construction period. However, the ministry has not specified how long the work will continue.
Construction Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib previously outlined the government’s plan to expand the road.
“The real need is to turn the entire ring road into a two-way road,” Muthalib said.
He added that the immediate focus is to expand the section from the Hulhumale’ ferry terminal to the temporary fish market near the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
