The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun work to repair the Tsunami Monument.

Construction Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib said in a post on X on Tuesday that the project forms part of government efforts to improve parks and public squares for people.

He said the work will include changes to make the site a public square and the replacement of sheet piles and repair of the keywall on the west side of the monument area. He stated that the sheet piles are deteriorating and that sand is being pulled from the site.

The Tsunami Monument was first located at the junction of the Sinamalé Bridge. It was moved in 2016 to the Thin Ruh Park area on the west side of Malé.
