Sultan Park has been closed for three months from Wednesday to carry out redevelopment work, the Ministry of Infrastructure announced.

The ministry said that the redevelopment project has already commenced.

Sultan Park was developed and opened during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen. However, the park was not maintained in the years that followed.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced the decision to redevelop Sultan Park during an episode of his With the Peoplepodcast in April.

In the podcast, the President said the redevelopment plan would make use of the large trees in the park by creating elevated walkways connecting them. He said this would allow the park to be experienced both on the ground and above.

“This is not just for children. It will be developed as a place for adults and youth to enjoy as well,” he said.

The redevelopment will include facilities on the ground level in addition to the elevated sections, according to the President.
