The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided that individuals wearing niqabs may be employed in courts and the judiciary.
The decision was taken during a commission meeting held on Wednesday, following a request from the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA). The DJA had asked the JSC to provide guidance on the issue after concerns were raised in the past regarding the employment of individuals wearing face-covering hijabs.
The JSC resolved that there is no restriction on employing such individuals in the judiciary. Following this decision, the DJA has updated its rules to reflect the commission’s position.
