The police said three officers were injured during an opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) protest held in Malé on Friday.
The MDP organised the rally to protest government policies. Police said the march deviated from the permitted route when protesters moved along Majeedhee Magu, leading to the confrontation.
Two male officers and one female officer were injured, police said. The female officer was hurt after falling with her shield when some protesters moved over police lines. One male officer was injured after being struck by a barricade, while the other was injured when demonstrators hit the shields, according to the statement.
Police said two of the injured officers were treated at Senahiya Hospital, while the third received treatment at ADK Hospital. No details of the injuries were provided.
