Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has alleged that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)’s decision to summon several members of his former cabinet is part of a political conspiracy.
In a post on X on Friday, Solih said that the ministers summoned by the ACC include:
-
1-
Fayyaz Ismail, former Minister of Economic Development and current Chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)
-
2-
Ibrahim Ameer, former Minister of Finance
-
3-
Dr Aishath Ali, former Minister of Education
Solih said the summons come at a time when the independence and autonomy of state institutions in the Maldives have been weakened. He described the investigations as unjust and aimed at intimidating the opposition.
“We know how this has happened in the past. Unfair investigations and politically motivated verdicts will harm the country’s reputation. I urge the heads of state to refrain from such actions and to uphold justice, equality, and the rule of law,” Solih said.
According to the summons:
-
Fayyaz Ismail has been ordered to appear before the ACC on Monday,
-
Ibrahim Ameer is to appear on Sunday,
-
and the date for Dr Aishath Ali’s appearance has not yet been disclosed.
