FIFA President Gianni Infantino is scheduled to make an official visit to the Maldives this weekend.
President of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), Ahmed Thoriq, said on Tuesday that Infantino will arrive in the Maldives on Friday, 24 October.
This will be the first official visit by a FIFA president to the Maldives in 19 years.
Thoriq described the visit as a significant step for Maldivian football, noting that it represents FIFA’s continued engagement with the country’s football development programmes.
He said the visit would serve as encouragement for local football administrators and players to strengthen efforts to advance the sport.
“This visit will accelerate the development of Maldivian football and further strengthen the relationship between FIFA and the FAM,” Thoriq said.
Infantino’s visit is expected to include meetings with senior government officials and sports representatives to discuss ongoing football development initiatives in the Maldives.
