Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel has declined to provide details of the 11 memoranda of understanding signed between the Maldives and China.
The agreements were signed during President Mohamed Muizzu’s official visit to China in early September.
On 3 September, Maavah MP Ahmed Shakir submitted a written question on behalf of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), requesting the Foreign Minister to disclose information about the MoUs.
Six months after the request, Minister Khaleel responded in writing to parliament. His response was read during Wednesday’s sitting.
In his reply, Khaleel stated that both countries were continuing discussions to finalise the MoUs and that information would be shared with the relevant authorities once the process was complete.
No additional details regarding the MoUs were provided in the ministry’s letter.
