Parliament Approves Appointment of Dr Aishath Rameela to Human Rights Commission
Parliament on Wednesday approved the appointment of former minister Dr Aishath Rameela to the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
The position became vacant with the expiry of the five-year term of commission member Mariyam Muna on Thursday.
President Mohamed Muizzu nominated Dr Rameela for the post earlier this month. The Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, which reviewed her nomination, recommended her appointment.
During Wednesday’s sitting, the committee’s report was put to vote. Dr Rameela’s appointment was approved by 63 members, with no votes against.
Dr Rameela previously served as Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare in the current administration. She resigned from her ministerial position in December last year citing health reasons.
