Former President Abdulla Yameen on Friday rated the first two years of President Mohamed Muizzu’s administration at 20 out of 100 marks.

Yameen, who supported Muizzu during the presidential election campaign but later formed the People’s National Front (PNF) and moved into opposition, delivered the assessment at a “Rise Up” rally held in Hulhumalé Phase Two.

Presenting his breakdown, Yameen assigned scores as follows:

  • Integrity: 10 out of 60

  • Responsiveness: 5 out of 10

  • Accountability: 0 out of 10

  • Transparency: 2 out of 10

  • Efficiency: 3 out of 10

He said these were internationally recognised indicators used to evaluate governments.

Yameen said responsiveness should reflect whether state spending addresses public needs. He cited shortages of essential medicines under the Aasandha scheme as a major concern, and criticised government spending on expanding the military, including the acquisition of vessels, which he said did not benefit the public.

Speaking on transparency, Yameen said the national budget lacked detailed breakdowns of allocations for individual islands and sectors. He also criticised the awarding of government projects without competitive tenders.

Regarding integrity, he said no action had been taken on alleged “fake land” issues in Hulhumale, theft cases in state-owned companies, or the accumulation of unexplained wealth by public officials. He added that independent institutions, including the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Auditor General’s Office, were not functioning effectively.

Yameen said efficiency should be measured by visible results, arguing that current economic pressures indicated a lack of progress. He noted rising prices and the increased cost of living.

He added that accountability was lacking and said the government “is not accountable to the people”.
