Asma Rasheed, MP for the Maafannu Central constituency, said on Friday that she apologises if her earlier message to constituents was misunderstood. The message had asked residents to share questions ahead of a planned meeting with President Mohamed Muizzu.
On Wednesday, Asma sent a message requesting that constituents submit the questions they wished the President to address during the meeting. The message drew criticism from some individuals.
In a statement issued on Friday, Asma said some people had misunderstood the intention behind her message. She said the request was not made on behalf of the President but was an effort to convey the concerns of constituents who might not have the chance to raise questions directly.
She said the request was made in her personal capacity.
“It is a message sent in my personal capacity and I believe it is important for every citizen of the Maafannu Central Constituency to express their own opinions and concerns,” the statement read.
President Muizzu met with residents of Villimale and Machchangolhi last week.
