Addu drug network leaders arrested; MVR 19 million traced

Police have arrested several senior figures of a drug trafficking network in Addu as part of Operation Alimagu, authorities said on Thursday.
Operation Alimagu was launched on 13 November on the orders of President Mohamed Muizzu following intelligence reports. Since the launch of the operation, police have carried out a number of targeted arrests.
Police confirmed that the leaders of what is described as the largest drug trafficking network in Addu were taken into custody on Wednesday night.

Investigations into both drug trafficking and money laundering are ongoing
Police stated that more than MVR 19 million had been transferred to the bank accounts of four senior members of the network over the past five years. No further details have been disclosed due to the continuing investigation.
More than 100 individuals were arrested on drug trafficking charges on the first day of Operation Alimagu.
