President Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday said the government will allow the construction of 10-storey buildings in Hulhumalé, subject to new conditions on parking and income-generating use.
The president made the remarks during a meeting with residents of Hulhumalé Phase I. He said the height limit would be increased in line with a pledge made during his campaign, but added that regulatory changes would introduce mandatory requirements.
Under the proposed framework, the lowest floor of each building will be reserved for parking. An additional floor will be required to be allocated for income-generating activities. The remaining floors will be designated for residential use.
Muizzu said the regulations will be amended to permit 10-storey buildings and that the changes will apply to both phases of Hulhumalé.
At present, the tallest buildings in Hulhumalé are six storeys high.
