The building that previously housed the Thalassaemia Centre on Majeedhee Magu in Henveiru, Malé, will be demolished to make way for a general practitioner (GP) clinic.
The Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Thursday announced a tender for the demolition of the former Thalassaemia Centre building.
IGMH said GP clinics are being established to reduce patient queues at the hospital. The first GP clinic in Malé began operations in Maafannu in November last year. A GP clinic is also operating in the Hulhumalé Hiyaa housing area, while another clinic is being developed in the FDC Flats area.
According to IGMH, services provided at GP clinics include treatment for common illnesses, referrals to specialists where further care is required, assistance in arranging specialist appointments, and the implementation of national public health programmes.
