The People’s National Congress (PNC) candidate for Malé mayor in the upcoming local council elections and former Defence Minister Moosa Ali Jaleel said on Sunday that he had the ability and experience to continue serving the public despite having retired from state service.

Moosa Ali Jaleel made the remarks while speaking at the opening of his campaign booth in Malé. The booth, located beneath the Dhonmanik Sky View restaurant in the carnival area, was opened by Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef.

Addressing those present, Moosa Ali Jaleel said President Mohamed Muizzu had identified the needs and changes sought by the public. He said he had reflected on whether he should return home after retirement or continue to serve the people.

He said that he still had the capacity and skills to contribute and that he had decided to work alongside President Muizzu. He added that he had placed the interests of the country and its people first in all responsibilities he had undertaken.

Moosa Ali Jaleel said he intended to serve as mayor of Malé with the same approach. He said he would be available at all times to respond to public needs and work towards improving services in the city.

The nomination period for candidates contesting the local council elections was opened on Saturday. Voting is scheduled to be held on 4 April.
