Police have warned the public to be cautious of a scam operated through an online jewellery website identified as “Raaya Male”.
In a statement issued on Sunday, police said the website is being used to obtain internet banking and card details from customers.
According to police, the scam involves offering discounts of up to 80 per cent under the pretext of a closure sale to attract buyers.
When customers attempt to make payments, they are redirected to a page that resembles a bank login screen. Through this page, scammers obtain customers’ usernames and passwords.
Police said the information is then used to access customers’ internet banking accounts and attempt unauthorised transactions.
Customers who may have entered their banking details on the website have been advised to contact their bank immediately and block their cards.
Police also advised the public not to click on links from websites to access internet banking services and not to enter one-time passwords sent for transferring funds through any external link.
