The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has provided temporary shelter to 37 residents from seven apartments following a fire at a Hiyaa housing tower in Hulhumalé Phase II on Friday.
The fire originated from an outdoor air-conditioning unit at Hiyaa Tower Five. Authorities evacuated the building, and the fire was brought under control shortly after 8:00 pm.
In an update issued on Saturday, the NDMA said the affected residents had been relocated to temporary accommodation. The authority said assessments were under way to identify damage to the apartments and carry out necessary repairs.
The NDMA said the Housing Development Corporation is working to assess damage to the sewerage system and conduct repair work. Further investigations into the cause of the fire are also being carried out in coordination with the Housing Development Corporation.
The NDMA said members of the public requiring assistance can contact its emergency hotline on 115.
