Tsunami monument square to be cleared for renovation

Maldives Police Service on Monday requested the removal of vehicles parked at Tsunami Monument Square to allow development work to begin under the Malé Scaping Project.
Police said the renovation of public squares and parks in Malé is ongoing and that vehicles parked at Tsunami Monument Square must be removed and the area vacated before 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
A chart released by police outlines the area from Tsunami Monument Square to Boduthakurufaanu Magu where vehicles are required to be cleared to facilitate the work.
The project has been awarded to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company. Authorities have not disclosed further details of the scope of the development.
The Tsunami Monument was built in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the 2004 tsunami. It was originally located in the area now occupied by the Sinamalé Bridge and was relocated in 2016 to the Thin Ruh Park area on the western side of Malé.
