Man treated for severe burns after fishing vessel fire near Malé

A man sustained severe burns in a fire on a fishing vessel near Malé on Saturday, while three expatriate workers also suffered burns, police said on Sunday.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said the fire occurred at 2:45 pm on a fishing vessel carrying 15 people near Dhoonidhoo. Five people were injured in the incident, including two Maldivian nationals and three foreign nationals.
Police said the two Maldivians were taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital on Saturday. One of them sustained severe burns. The hospital told Atoll Times on Sunday that a 54-year-old man is being treated for burn injuries in a ward. No further details were provided on his condition.

The MNDF said the fire broke out on a fishing vessel named Fresh from the Sea. The vessel sank at 4:46 pm while efforts were underway to extinguish the fire.
