Ismail Naveen has decided to retire from the police service, less than a year after assuming office as Commissioner of Police.

A reliable source confirmed to Atoll Times that Naveen has made the decision and has informed several close associates. While he has confirmed his intention to retire, the timing of his departure has not been disclosed. The reasons for the decision have also not been made public.

Naveen took office as Commissioner of Police in June last year. He is the second person to hold the post under the current administration. His predecessor, Ali Shujau, resigned from the position and retired from service in May last year.

Naveen joined the Maldives Police Service in 2006. During his career, he served in several senior roles, including Head of the Corporate Services Directorate, Head of the People Directorate, Head of the Central Policing Command, and Head of the Forensic Services Directorate.

He holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of South Queensland in Australia and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Northumbria in the United Kingdom.
