Man arrested over possession, upload of child abuse material

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of uploading child sexual abuse material to Google Drive and possessing such material on electronic devices, police said.
The suspect, Ali Najih of Hulhevi/B. Kudarikilu, was arrested on 13 February. He was initially remanded in custody for five days. The court later extended his remand by a further seven days, with the current remand period set to expire on 26 February.
The case is being investigated by the Family and Child Protection Department of the Maldives Police Service. Police said offences involving the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material are treated as serious criminal cases.
Further details have not been disclosed as the investigation continues.
