Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into an alleged case of sexual assault involving a 13-year-old girl in a northern island.
Police said the report was received Thursday evening, from an island within the North Police Division.

The case is under investigation and no arrests have been made so far, according to police.
Authorities said details of the case have not been disclosed in order to protect the identity of the child and the location of the incident.
Police stated that further information will be released as the investigation progresses.
