TVM producer arrested over child exploitation
The court has remanded the suspect in custody for 15 days.
A producer at Television Maldives (TVM) has been arrested in connection with an investigation into alleged offences involving minors.
The Maldives Police Service identified the suspect as Moosal Mueen, 37, of Rihidhoadhi, Gdh. Fiyoaree. He was taken into custody on Wednesday.
Police stated that the arrest relates to allegations including attempts to engage in inappropriate communication with a minor, possession of images and videos involving minors, and involvement in sexual acts with minors.
The court has remanded the suspect in custody for 15 days. The case is being investigated by the Family and Child Protection Department of the Maldives Police Service.
Police stated that offences involving children, including the possession and distribution of related material, are treated as serious cases and are subject to legal action.
Authorities also noted that the suspect had worked on children’s programmes at TVM and is alleged to have attempted to contact a participant in one of the programmes.
