President Mohamed Muizzu has formally condemned Iran’s recent attacks targeting the United Arab Emirates and several other countries, marking the first public condemnation issued by the Maldivian government since the escalation.
The condemnation was conveyed during a telephone call between President Muizzu and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, according to a statement released by the UAE President’s Office. During the call, President Muizzu reaffirmed the Maldives’ rejection of what he described as blatant attacks by Iran, and expressed the Maldives’ solidarity with the UAE.
President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed thanked President Muizzu for the Maldives’ supportive stance, underscoring the close ties between the two countries.
Both leaders also discussed broader regional developments and their implications for security and stability. They stressed the need for an immediate halt to escalatory actions and emphasised the importance of dialogue and diplomatic engagement to address regional tensions in a manner that safeguards peace and stability.
The call signals the Maldives’ official position on the unfolding situation, aligning the country with calls from regional partners for de-escalation and diplomatic resolution.
