Husband in custody over wife's death rushed to hospital after suicide attempt

A man arrested for allegedly murdering his wife in HDh. Nolhivaram on Saturday has been admitted to a hospital after he was found trying to commit suicide by hanging in his cell. 

Abu Bakr Faisal, 32, from Fenfushi island had been remanded for 15 days under a court order. He was kept in a cell at the police station in HDh.  Kulhudhuffushi.

In a message to the media Tuesday morning, the police said:

A police source confirmed to Atoll Times that Faisal was unconscious when the police found him.

Kulhudhuffushi Hospital spokesman Mohamed Moosa told Atoll Times on Tuesday that Faisal is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit(ICU).

"His condition is critical," the spokesman said without giving further details.

However, a reliable source confirmed to Atoll Times that Faisal is currently on ventilator support and doctors have now given up hope on his recovery. 

Nishama, 28, was reported dead to the police around 12.30pm on Saturday. In connection with her death, Faisal Abubakr, 32, Rosyvilla/ADh. Fenfushi was arrested. 

Faisal is Nishama's husband. He went to Kulhudhuffushi police station on his own.

Atoll Times understands that Nishama's body was brought to Male from HDh. Kulhudhuffushi Sunday evening. Her body is currently at Galolhu mortuary. 

While Faisal is accused of the murder, Nishama's family members and neighbours who spoke to Atoll Times, as well as the people who of Fenfushi, say that he abuses his wife a lot.

Three people who found Nishama's body told Atoll Times:
