MDP secures mayoral seats across all cities

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has secured mayoral seats across all cities in the Maldives, according to provisional results from Saturday’s elections.
The party’s candidates in Malé, Addu, Fuvahmulah, Thinadhoo and Kulhudhuffushi were all incumbents.
Results received so far show that the MDP won the mayoral contests in all cities, with the exception of Thinadhoo where counting is ongoing.
According to the Elections Commission of Maldives, the MDP candidate is leading in Thinadhoo with 51.65 per cent of the vote.
The candidate from the People’s National Congress (PNC) has secured 48.35 per cent.
The results remain provisional pending completion of the count.
