President Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Ahmed Mohamed as Commissioner of Police.
The appointment follows the retirement of former Commissioner Ismail Naveen.
The Maldives Police Service confirmed the appointment on Sunday, stating that Ahmed Mohamed, who previously served as Assistant Commissioner, has been promoted to the post.
This is the third appointment to the position since the current administration took office.
Ahmed Mohamed joined the police service in 1995. He completed training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy and holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Shari’ah from Villa College.
In 2021, Ahmed Mohamed was among seven officers recommended for dismissal by the Police Board under the Police Service Act. The recommendation followed allegations related to the misappropriation of police funds.
He was dismissed from service in October 2021 and later reinstated on 3 September this year.
