Ali Arif resigns as minister at President’s Office
The resignation follows recent changes in leadership across several state-owned enterprises.
Ali Arif has resigned from his position as Minister at the President’s Office on Monday.
Ali Arif served as Minister for Presidential Affairs and is a relative of Mohamed Muizzu. It is understood that the resignation was voluntary. Further details have not been disclosed.
The resignation follows recent changes in leadership across several state-owned enterprises.
Among these, Farhath Shaheer, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), and Abdul Matheen, Managing Director of the Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), resigned on Sunday.
Mohamed Rishwan, Managing Director of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), also stepped down last week.
In addition, several heads of state-owned companies have been removed following the recent local council elections. These include Hussain Didi and Mohamed Najah.
Prior to joining the current administration, Ali Arif served as Secretary-General of the Jumhooree Party. He resigned from that position to take part in the 2023 presidential campaign.
