Adam Naseer Ibrahim, who previously served as Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, has been appointed to the President’s Office at minister rank.

Adam Naseer resigned from the Cabinet on 14 April as part of changes made to the government following the local council elections.

Chief Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef said on Tuesday that Adam Naseer assumed duties at the President’s Office as Special Adviser on Dhivehi Language and Nationalism.

Shareef also confirmed that the appointment carries minister rank.

Adam Naseer’s appointment comes as the administration continues to reassign former ministers who left their posts during the April reshuffle.

Ten ministers resigned after being requested to step down by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu following the local council elections.

Several former ministers have since been appointed to other positions within the state.

Among them is Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim, who recently returned to the President’s Office after serving as Minister of Health. Nazim was appointed as Principal Secretary to the President on Policy and Manifesto.

The government has also moved some former ministers into diplomatic positions.

Former Minister of Local Government Adam Shareef has been selected for appointment as the Maldives’ Ambassador to Qatar, while former Minister of Environment Thoriq Ibrahim has been selected for appointment as Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.

Adam Naseer served as Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage until his resignation in April. In his new role, he will advise the President’s Office on matters related to the Dhivehi language, culture and nationalism.
