Adam Naseer Ibrahim resigned from his position at the President’s Office on Tuesday, less than a day after being appointed as a minister-rank adviser.

Adam Naseer, who previously served as Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, had resigned from the Cabinet on 14 April as part of changes made to the government following the local council elections.

Earlier on Tuesday, Chief Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef announced that Adam Naseer had assumed duties at the President’s Office as Special Adviser on Dhivehi Language and Nationalism.

Shareef also confirmed that the position carried minister rank.

However, a few hours later, Shareef announced that Adam Naseer had resigned from the post. No reason was provided for the resignation.

The appointment and subsequent resignation come as the government continues to reassign former ministers who left office during the Cabinet reshuffle in April.

Ten ministers resigned after being requested to step down by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu following the local council elections.

Several of those former ministers have since been appointed to other positions within the government.

Among them is Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim, who recently returned to the President’s Office after serving as Minister of Health. Nazim was appointed Principal Secretary to the President on Policy and Manifesto.

The administration has also nominated former ministers for diplomatic appointments. Former Minister of Local Government Adam Shareef has been selected for appointment as the Maldives’ Ambassador to Qatar, while former Minister of Environment Thoriq Ibrahim has been selected for appointment as Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.

Adam Naseer served as Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage until his resignation from the Cabinet in April. His brief appointment to the President’s Office was intended to focus on matters related to the Dhivehi language, culture and nationalism.
