Moosa Fathuhy appointed PNC Secretary General
The position became vacant after Muaz Haleem resigned last Saturday.
Moosa Fathuhy has been appointed as Secretary General of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), following the resignation of Muaz Haleem.
The appointment was announced by the PNC in a post on X on Monday.
Fathuhy previously served as a State Minister at the Ministry of Local Government prior to its dissolution. He also serves as the President’s representative on the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB), which oversees state-owned enterprises.
The position became vacant after Muaz Haleem resigned last Saturday. Muaz, who also serves as a State Minister at the Ministry of Defence, had been appointed as Secretary General in January last year.
Muaz stated that his resignation was intended to support President Mohamed Muizzu’s reform efforts. His departure follows the resignation of ten cabinet ministers last week, who cited similar reasons.
New appointments have since been made to fill those ministerial roles.
The changes come after the outcome of the referendum held on April 4 regarding the synchronisation of council elections with national elections. Following the result, President Muizzu stated that reforms would be implemented.
