President Mohamed Muizzu has requested the People's Majlis to remove a medication used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) from the national list of prohibited substances.

The proposal was submitted on Thursday following deliberations by the Cabinet and recommendations from the National Drug Control Council. It was presented during Monday’s parliamentary sitting.

In a letter addressed to Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla, the President stated that the request concerns the removal of Methylphenidate from the prohibited list.

The medication is used in the treatment of ADHD and is currently listed under Schedule 1 of the Drug Act, which contains substances that are not permitted.

The President has requested approval from Parliament to amend the list in line with the Cabinet decision.

Under Section 3-4 of the Drug Act, changes to Schedule 1 require a recommendation from the National Drug Control Council, a decision by the Cabinet, and approval by the People’s Majlis.

Parliament is required to decide on the proposal within 14 days of its submission.
