President Mohamed Muizzu said on Saturday that the government is working to establish a system allowing military personnel to serve in areas where their families reside.
The President made the remarks during a ceremony held at Kalhuthukkala Koshi to mark the 134th anniversary of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
During his speech, Muizzu said enabling soldiers to work closer to their families would improve both their personal lives and work performance.
He stated that expanding the military force would be necessary to implement such a system and noted that funding has already been allocated to recruit more young people into the MNDF.
“I intend to identify the residential areas of every soldier and establish the necessary framework to allow them to perform their duties within the Area Command encompassing those regions,” the President said.
According to Muizzu, the proposed arrangement would allow personnel to continue serving while remaining based near their home regions and families.
