The Criminal Court on Thursday ordered the remand of three individuals arrested during an opposition protest calling for the release of two detained journalists.
Among those remanded was Shammoon Jaleel, also known as Lucas, a writer and commentator on social media.
A total of ten people were taken into police custody during the protest held in support of journalists and press freedom.
According to lawyers representing the detainees, seven individuals were later released, while three remained in custody following court hearings.
The court ordered the following remand periods:

Shammoon Jaleel — 10 days

One individual — 3 days
Opposition groups have continued to call for the release of those detained.
Police stated that the arrests were made on allegations of disobeying lawful orders issued during the protest.
Media organisations and journalists also reported difficulties covering the demonstration.
According to reports from the scene, police actions restricted media access and journalists were at times treated similarly to protesters during the operation.
