Maldives Customs Service has seized 8.49 kilograms of hashish oil that was being smuggled into the country through air transport.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Customs said the drugs were intercepted on Tuesday at Velana International Airport.
Authorities estimated the street value of the seized substances at more than MVR 6 million.
Customs did not disclose the country from which the drugs originated or provide further details regarding the operation.
The seizure is one of several drug interdictions carried out by Customs in recent months as authorities continue efforts to prevent the import of illegal substances by air and sea.
Last month, Customs also intercepted more than 900 grams of drugs at Velana International Airport. The seizure was announced on 24 May.
Authorities have not released information on any arrests or charges related to the latest case.
The matter remains under investigation.
