6 arrested over plans for assaults in Malé and Hulhumalé

According to police, officers searched a guesthouse in the Maafannu district of Malé and another location believed to be connected to the suspects.

Six people have been arrested on suspicion of planning assaults linked to gang violence in Malé and Hulhumalé, police said.

The Maldives Police Service announced on Saturday that the arrests were made during an operation conducted on Thursday night.

According to police, officers searched a guesthouse in the Maafannu district of Malé and another location believed to be connected to the suspects.

The operation resulted in:

  • The arrest of six Maldivian men aged between 21 and 34.

  • The seizure of a folding knife and MVR 39,695 in cash.

The suspects were brought before the Criminal Court on Friday for remand hearings.

Police said the court ordered four of the suspects to be held in custody for 15 days, while the remaining two were released under conditions imposed by the court.

The investigation is ongoing.
