Police have launched an investigation after a group entered a school in Hulhumalé Phase II, assaulted people and damaged property while votes were being counted following the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) internal elections.
The incident occurred at Kamil Didi School at around 9:15 p.m. on Saturday.
In a statement issued to the media, police said they were investigating an incident in which a group entered a school, damaged the building and its property, and assaulted individuals present at the scene. The statement did not identify the school or the political party involved.
Police did not provide further details about the incident.

The PNC held its internal elections on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to elect office-bearers for constituency steering committees and other party positions.
According to the party, more than 2,500 members were elected during the process.
The elections were held ahead of the PNC National Congress, which is scheduled to take place in September.
