The Maldives' first direct Umrah flight from Addu City to Saudi Arabia departed on Sunday, carrying 260 pilgrims.
A Maldivian Airbus A330 aircraft operated the flight from Gan International Airport.
The service was launched through a partnership between Maldivian, the national airline, and Umrah tour operator Travellers Maldives.
In a statement, Maldivian said the launch marked more than the addition of a new route, describing it as a milestone that creates further opportunities for the airline.
Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen also welcomed the launch, saying the direct service would make travel more convenient for residents of Addu City and the southern atolls.
In a post on X, Ameen thanked President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for facilitating the introduction of the direct Umrah service.
