Parliament holds no sittings for 2 consecutive days without explanation
According to several MPs contacted by Dhauru, the parliamentary administration did not provide a reason for the cancellations.
The People's Majlis has not held parliamentary sittings for two consecutive scheduled sitting days following the World Cup final, with no official explanation provided to members or the public.
The last sitting of Parliament was held on Wednesday. Although the Majlis' standing orders designate Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays as sitting days, no sittings took place on Monday or Tuesday this week.
According to several MPs contacted by Dhauru, the parliamentary administration did not provide a reason for the cancellations.
"We don't know why sittings aren't being held. Yesterday, we only found out there was no sitting after physically arriving at the parliament building," one MP said.
When contacted by Dhauru, the parliamentary administration did not explain why the sittings had not been held.
"We can only inform you that the date for the next sitting will be communicated later," a parliamentary official said.
Attempts to obtain comment from Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla were unsuccessful.
At the conclusion of last Wednesday's sitting, Abdul Raheem adjourned the House without announcing the date and time of the next sitting. The Speaker normally announces the next sitting before adjourning Parliament.
