No births recorded in Vaavu atoll last year, statistics show
Data released by the Maldives Bureau of Statistics in 2024 also showed that no births were recorded in Vaavu Atoll in 2021.

No births were recorded in Vaavu Atoll last year, while 5,625 children were born across the Maldives, according to Vital Statistics released by the Maldives Bureau of Statistics.
The data, released jointly by the Bureau of Statistics and the Ministry of Health, provides a breakdown of births by sex, location and age of mothers.
Of the 5,625 births recorded last year, 2,789 were female and 2,835 were male. The sex of one child was not confirmed in the statistics.
Malé accounted for the majority of births, with 3,927 children born in the capital. This represented about 70% of all births recorded nationwide.
Haa Dhaalu Atoll recorded the second-highest number, with 385 births, while 241 births were recorded in Addu Atoll.
The statistics also show that 163 children were born outside the Maldives during the year.
By age group, the highest number of births was recorded among women aged between 30 and 34. Women aged between 25 and 29 accounted for the second-highest number.
No births were recorded in Vaavu Atoll during the year.
This is not the first year in which the atoll has recorded no births. Data released by the Maldives Bureau of Statistics in 2024 also showed that no births were recorded in Vaavu Atoll in 2021.
