Maldives records 1,399 deaths last year, vital statistics show
The statistics show that 161 foreign nationals died in the Maldives during the year. In addition, 28 Maldivians died abroad.

A total of 1,399 deaths were recorded in the Maldives last year, according to Vital Statistics released jointly by the Maldives Bureau of Statistics and the Ministry of Health.
Of the deaths recorded during the year, 830 were male and 569 were female.
The statistics show that 161 foreign nationals died in the Maldives during the year. In addition, 28 Maldivians died abroad.
Malé recorded the highest number of deaths, with 830 deaths reported in the capital. A further 569 deaths were recorded across the atolls.
Among the atolls, Addu recorded the highest number of deaths at 97, followed by Haa Dhaalu Atoll with 74.
The data also provides figures on infant, child and maternal deaths.
A total of 70 deaths were recorded among infants under the age of one. The number of deaths among children under five stood at 75.
Five maternal deaths were also recorded during the year.
The Vital Statistics further show that 5,625 births were recorded in the Maldives last year.
Of the children born, 2,789 were female and 2,835 were male. The sex of one child was recorded as unconfirmed, with no reason specified in the published information.
The figures form part of the Vital Statistics compiled by the Maldives Bureau of Statistics and the Ministry of Health, covering births and deaths recorded across the country and among Maldivians abroad.
