Motorcyclist arrested after hitting traffic police officer in Malé

According to police, the officer was managing traffic at the junction when he was struck by the motorcycle and sustained injuries.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly hitting a police officer managing traffic in Malé with a motorcycle and attempting to flee the scene.

The Maldives Police Service said on Saturday that the incident occurred at about 5.30pm on Friday at the junction of Chandhanee Magu and Majeedhee Magu.

According to police, the officer was managing traffic at the junction when he was struck by the motorcycle and sustained injuries.

Police said the rider attempted to flee following the collision but was arrested before he could leave the area.

The suspect has been identified as Saain Abdul Gayyoom, 23, from GDh. Faresmaathodaa.

He was presented before a court, which remanded him in custody for 15 days.

Police have also towed the motorcycle involved in the incident.

An investigation is underway.
