Cambodian PM concludes Maldives visit

Hun Sen undertook his first visit to the Maldives at the invitation of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Prime Minister of Cambodia Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, concluded his official visit to the Maldives on Tuesday.

Hun Sen undertook his first visit to the Maldives at the invitation of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The Cambodian prime minister and his accompanying delegation were received at Velana International Airport (VIA) on Sunday by the Maldivian foreign minister Abdulla Shahid.

On Monday morning, the government of the Maldives held an official welcome ceremony at Republic Square for the visiting prime minister. President Solih received Hun Sen at Izzuddin Jetty in Male.

Following the welcome ceremony, President Solih met with Hun Sen at the President's Office and held official talks on strengthening bilateral cooperation, followed by the exchange of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between the two countries. The Maldives and Cambodia exchanged six key agreements, demonstrating a pivotal point of progress in bilateral relations between the two countries.

President Solih and Hun Sen also delivered a joint statement on the outcomes of their discussions and issued a Joint Communiqué between the two countries.

On Monday afternoon, President Solih hosted an official luncheon in honour of Samdech Techo Prime Minister Hun Sen. Cabinet ministers, senior government officials, and the visiting delegation joined the president and the prime minister for the luncheon at OBLU XPERIENCE Ailafushi.

Vice President Faisal Naseem also paid a courtesy call on Hun Sen. At the meeting at Paradise Island Resort on Monday afternoon, the vice president described Hun Sen's visit to the Maldives as a crucial demonstration of the close bonds of friendship between the Maldives and Cambodia.

The Maldives and Cambodia established diplomatic relations on September 21, 1995.
