Maldives opens bidding for 15 new resort developments

If the 15 announced premises are leased even at the lowest price, the state is expected to earn USD 12.4 million in revenue.

Tourism ministry on Monday invited bids for 15 new islands and lagoons for the development of tourism.

The ministry's list includes: 

  • 1-

    H.A. Alidhuffarufinolhu

  • 2-

    H.A. Medhafushi

  • 3-

    H.Dh. Kudafarufasgandu

  • 4-

    10 hectares of land reclaimed from R. Etthigili and R. Alifushi lagoon

  • 5-

    Part of K. Kaashidhoo lagoon

  • 6-

    M. Boahuraa

  • 7-

    F. Nilandhoo lagoon area -1

  • 8-

    F. Nilandhoo lagoon area -2

  • 9-

    Th. Olhufushi (with Olhufushi sandbank)

  • 10-

    Th. Olhufushi Finolhu

  • 11-

    G. A. Beyrumauddu

  • 12-

    G. A. Funadhoovillingiyya

  • 13-

    G. Dh. Haadhuaa

  • 14-

    G. Dh. Kalhehuttaa

  • 15-

    G. Dh. Fereythavilingili along with other islands nearby; they are Dhekaanbaa, Koderata and another small island

According to the tourism ministry's announcement, the acquisition cost of the islands ranges between $200,000 and $2.3 million. Thus:

  • The highest reserve price is for a total of 20 hectares of land from Nilandhoo lagoon; the reserve price is $ 2.3 million

  • The lowest reserve price is for H.Dh. Kudafarufasgandu; the reserve price of the 1.20-hectare island is $200,000

If the 15 announced premises are leased even at the lowest price, the state is expected to earn $12.4 million in acquisition cost revenue.

The information session for those interested in bidding for these islands will be held on February 5 and 6 at 10am via Zoom.

The deadlines for submission of bids are as follows:

  • Islands in atolls Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, Raa and Kaafu: 10am on Tuesday, March 28 

  • Islands in Meemu, Faafu and Thaa atolls: 10am on Tuesday, March 29

  • Islands in Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaalu atolls: 10am on Tuesday, March 30

According to the ministry:

  • To email, the ministry's e-mail: [email protected] by February 5 and March 2 afternoon, to participate in the information session; Name, email address, and a contact number should be submitted for participation in the information clarification meeting

  • The application form for purchase of the bid book will be available on the website of the ministry (www.tourism.gov.mv).
