This year’s Hajj sermon, delivered by Sheikh Salah Al Humaid, urged the Islamic Ummah to uphold piety and follow religious obligations, while offering prayers for guidance to Muslim leaders.

The sermon, delivered from Arafat on Thursday, began with a call for the Ummah to act with sincere intentions and remain steadfast in obedience to Allah. Sheikh Al Humaid reminded listeners of the foundational principles of Islam, including the importance of prayer, fasting, and giving zakat.

He stated that among the various ranks in Islam, kindness holds the highest place. The sermon also emphasised that observing prayers in congregation and maintaining consciousness of Allah in one’s actions contributes to social cohesion and community strength.

The sermon included a reminder to follow the teachings and practices of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), especially in matters of religious observance and dispute resolution. Specific references were made to the Prophet’s actions during Hajj:

  • Staying in Arafat until sunset engaged in prayer and remembrance

  • Travelling to Muzdalifah at sunset and spending the night there

  • Proceeding to Mina, performing the stoning ritual at Jamrat, and offering the sacrificial animal

  • Remaining in Mina and continuing the stoning ritual on subsequent days, with the option to leave after two days for those who choose to do so

Sheikh Al Humaid acknowledged the logistical arrangements made by the Saudi government to manage Hajj and noted the scale of the work involved in facilitating the pilgrimage.

The sermon included prayers for the people of Gaza, asking for mercy for victims of ongoing violence and protection from further threats. Prayers were also offered for Muslim leaders, including Saudi authorities, seeking guidance and support in fulfilling their responsibilities.

Additional prayers in the sermon included:

  • Forgiveness for the sins of all Muslims

  • Ease in personal matters and enlightenment of hearts

  • Correction of deeds of family members and protection from Hell

  • Acceptance of good deeds and assistance in acts of worship and remembrance

  • Acceptance of the Hajj of all pilgrims

Following the sermon, the noon and afternoon prayers were held in congregation. Pilgrims were then expected to remain in Arafat until sunset before departing for Muzdalifah.
